In celebration of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day, Bureau Veritas Indonesia hosted a vibrant Indonesia Week filled with engaging activities, highlighting the company's commitment to fostering a positive and dynamic workplace environment. These events aimed to commemorate a significant national occasion and emphasise the importance of unity, health, and employee well-being under the overarching theme of "Shaping a Better Workplace."
The week began with a solemn ceremony and a hybrid town hall meeting, where employees from the head office and various branches, including Samarinda, Banjarbaru, Palembang, Morowali, Medan, Paiton, and Manado, gathered both virtually and in person. Project teams from significant assignments such as the Amman Mineral Project, Pertamina Hulu Rokan, Bali Marine, and Solusi Bangun Indonesia also participated, showcasing the diverse and widespread impact of Bureau Veritas' operations. This gathering symbolised the unity and strength of the OneBV family, reinforcing the company’s dedication to connecting its workforce across all levels.
In the afternoon, a fun walk event took place at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, where employees enthusiastically participated in a 5 km walk. The challenge offered a fun competition and encouraged physical activity, with the first three participants returning to the meeting point emerging as winners. Such initiatives are crucial, as studies show that regular physical activity can reduce absenteeism by up to 27% (American Journal of Preventive Medicine) and boost overall productivity by up to 12% (Harvard Business Review). Bureau Veritas recognises the value of these benefits, striving to create an environment where employees are motivated to stay active and engaged.
Day two featured traditional game competitions, including Eating Crackers, Mystery Box, Passing the Straw, and the Pen & Bottle game. These traditional games allowed employees to bond over shared cultural experiences, promoting teamwork and collaboration in a fun and informal setting. Social activities increase employee morale and satisfaction, creating a positive workplace culture where employees feel valued and connected.
A PlayStation competition, spread over days three and four, marked the middle of the week, bringing out the competitive spirit in a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere. Such leisure activities are essential in relieving stress and providing a break from daily work routines, helping to maintain a balanced and happy workforce. Research indicates that incorporating play into the workplace can enhance creativity and problem-solving abilities, further underlining the importance of such initiatives.
The week concluded with a highly anticipated badminton competition featuring eight male doubles teams and three female doubles teams. Badminton, known for its fast pace and strategic play, was ideal for promoting physical fitness and teamwork. Physical activities like these are linked to numerous health benefits, including reduced risk of chronic diseases, improved mental health, and enhanced team dynamics, all of which contribute to a more productive and harmonious workplace.
