Bureau Veritas Supports TPK Koja’s Green Port Transformation through Independent Third-Party Inspection

Dec. 18 2025

Jakarta, 15 December 2025 Bureau Veritas Indonesia has supported the procurement of new port equipment at KSO Terminal Petikemas Koja (TPK Koja) in its role as procurement consultant, contributing to the terminal’s operational modernization and green port transformation.

The inauguration event, titled “New Equipment Inauguration: Gearing Up for a Greener Future,” marked the arrival of seven new electric-powered port equipment units, comprising four Electric Rubber Tyred Gantries (E-RTG) and three Quay Container Cranes (QCC). This initiative is designed to enhance terminal productivity, improve operational efficiency, and reduce environmental impact, aligning TPK Koja with global standards for sustainable port operations.

The event was attended by the management of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) (Pelindo), the CEO of Hutchison Ports Indonesia (HPI), the Board of Supervisors of TPK Koja, and representatives from key regulatory authorities, including KSOP, Customs and Excise, Quarantine Agency, Tanjung Priok Police, and the North Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office, alongside strategic partners and customers.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the modernization program, Arif Suhartono, President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), stated,

“Equipment modernization is a strategic mandate to support national logistics connectivity. TPK Koja plays a vital role within the Tanjung Priok Port ecosystem, and strengthening operational infrastructure like this is fundamental to enhancing the competitiveness and service speed of our terminal on the global stage.”

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration in delivering this transformation, Seto Baskoro, CEO of Hutchison Ports Indonesia, added,

“The close collaboration between Pelindo and Hutchison Ports Indonesia enables TPK Koja to adopt global operational standards while remaining responsive to the evolving challenges of the port and logistics industry. This constructive collaboration allows us to continuously enhance service quality and deliver reliable, competitive, and sustainable terminal operations.”

Underscoring the operational impact of the new equipment, Banu Astrini, General Manager of TPK Koja, stated,

“The arrival of this new equipment marks an important step in the transformation of our terminal operations. These assets will drive higher handling capacity while strengthening the stability and reliability of daily operations. With the full support of Pelindo and Hutchison Ports Indonesia, we are confident in our ability to deliver faster, safer, and more efficient services to all port users.”

Supporting this strategic and operational transition, Bureau Veritas Indonesia carried out design review and shop inspection services to verify that the equipment was manufactured in accordance with approved technical specifications, applicable standards, and safety requirements.

Highlighting the importance of independent assurance, Didie Tedjosumirat, Director of Bureau Veritas Indonesia, stated,

“Port modernization is about building safe, reliable, and sustainable operations. Through design review and shop inspection with Bureau Veritas Group, we support TPK Koja’s transition to greener port infrastructure.”

The modernization program also reflects TPK Koja’s commitment to environmental responsibility. All seven units are fully electric powered, supporting emission reduction efforts and improving energy efficiency across terminal operations.

From an operational perspective, the newly installed QCCs offer significantly enhanced capabilities compared to previous generations. Designed to serve Super-Panamax vessels, the new cranes have an outreach of up to 63 meters, equivalent to approximately 22 container rows, replacing older cranes with a reach of around 35 meters. The addition of four E-RTGs further strengthens yard operations, one of the most intensive activity areas within the terminal.

The equipment was delivered in phases, with four E-RTGs and two QCCs arriving on 12 December 2025, followed by the remaining QCC in a subsequent shipment. This phased delivery approach supported effective system integration and operational readiness.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a symbolic launching procession, a video presentation documenting the equipment’s arrival, and a site visit, during which guests observed the new equipment and received technical briefings from the project teams.

Through its involvement in this project, Bureau Veritas Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s port and logistics sector by delivering independent assurance services across the equipment lifecycle, from design review and manufacturing inspection to operational readiness, supporting the development of modern, competitive, and sustainable green ports.
