Bureau Veritas and Pertamina Collaborate to Advance Energy Sector Safety Through Technical Workshop
Oct. 20 2025
PT Bureau Veritas Indonesia recently conducted a two-day technical workshop from 18 to 19 September 2025, bringing together key participants from Pertamina Hulu Energi Zona 11, Pertamina Kilang Internasional (KPI), and Pertamina MOR V. The workshop focused on strengthening operational safety, improving asset reliability, and fostering innovation in the energy sector.
The sessions featured expert speakers and representative from Bureau Veritas, including Graham Wright (Technical Center Director, BV SEA), Nyoman Seniawan (Operations Manager), Deddy Syam (Key Account Leader), Bambang Prasakti (Technical Specialist, Firman Budiyanto (Business Development Manager), Harry Sugita (Technical Manager), as well as Shavira Hanza Renadia and Ahnaf Karding from the Marketing and Communication team.
Key Technical Themes
Throughout the workshop, Bureau Veritas specialists and Pertamina representatives exchanged insights to align operational integrity and safety practices across various upstream and downstream activities.
Quality Technical Practices (QTP)
This session explored Bureau Veritas’ QTP framework — a standardized set of quality procedures ensuring that design, construction, and maintenance activities comply with international codes and client specifications. Participants discussed how QTP implementation strengthens governance in project execution, enhances consistency in inspection and testing, and minimizes human error in critical operations.
In-Line Inspection (ILI)
The ILI discussion centered on the use of smart pigs and diagnostic tools to evaluate pipeline conditions from within. Bureau Veritas experts presented real-world case studies on defect detection, metal loss analysis, and anomaly characterization. Pertamina participants gained a deeper understanding of how ILI results can support data-driven decision-making and improve pipeline maintenance scheduling.
Smart Tank Technologies
This session introduced digital monitoring tools for real-time tank integrity assessment. Bureau Veritas demonstrated how Smart Tank technologies integrate sensors, data analytics, and remote inspection systems to detect structural weaknesses, monitor corrosion rates, and optimize tank maintenance cycles. This approach reduces downtime while increasing asset lifespan and operational safety.
Process Safety & Asset Integrity Management (PSAIM)
The PSAIM session focused on risk-based methodologies to ensure safe operations throughout asset lifecycles. Discussions covered incident prevention, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and root cause analysis frameworks. Bureau Veritas also shared its global best practices in integrating PSAIM with digital platforms to improve traceability, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk mitigation.
Interactive Sessions and Technical Discussions
Both days featured engaging Q&A and focus group sessions, where participants discussed real-site challenges such as:
- Environmental impacts on detection technologies
- Depth and range limitations during inspection
- Pipeline geometry constraints
- Material-related issues affecting sensor accuracy
- Cost implications of on-site deployment
- Visual inspection requirements before installation
These exchanges fostered practical collaboration and demonstrated the collective commitment to enhancing operational reliability across Pertamina’s facilities.
Feedback from Pertamina
Each Pertamina entity expressed appreciation for the workshop’s depth and relevance:
- Pertamina Hulu Energi Zona 11 valued the enhanced collaboration and emphasized the importance of continuous improvement in safety and integrity management.
- Pertamina MOR V found the inspection-related sessions highly applicable to their operational needs and expressed interest in further technical exchanges.
- Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) appreciated the exposure to advanced inspection technologies, particularly in addressing data limitations and confined-space challenges.
Commitment to Continued Collaboration
The workshop concluded with a shared understanding of the importance of ongoing technical development to enhance safety, integrity, and performance across Pertamina’s operations. Bureau Veritas reaffirmed its commitment to supporting innovation through continuous tool development and partnerships with relevant institutions.
This engagement marked another step in the long-standing collaboration between Bureau Veritas and Pertamina, driving the shared mission of achieving safer, more efficient, and sustainable energy infrastructure for Indonesia’s future.
